A North Island Naval Air Station airman assigned to Anti-Submarine Squadron 38 was killed early Monday when the tow tractor he was driving collided with an engine of a parked aircraft, a Navy official said. The airman, whose name was withheld until his family could be notified, was driving the tractor at 6 a.m. on the squadron flight line when it hit the right engine of a parked S-3A anti-submarine aircraft, trapping him between the engine and the tractor, said Chief Petty Officer Ruth Lawrence. The airman was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to the Navy hospital in Balboa Park. The accident is under investigation, Lawrence said.
