Claus von Bulow’s retrial on charges of trying to murder his wife with insulin injections was moved to Providence from Newport today over protests from the defendant’s lawyers.

Providence Superior Court Presiding Justice Anthony A. Giannini said the Danish-born financier could cite only “intangible” reasons for wanting the second trial, beginning April 2, held in Newport, site of the alleged crime and of the first trial. Von Bulow’s attorneys told Giannini that their client’s wish to keep the trial in Newport involved something they said “couldn’t be put into words.”
