Deaver Treated for Case of Flu
Michael Deaver, President Reagan’s outgoing deputy chief of staff, was admitted to Georgetown University Hospital with the flu in the midst of inaugural festivities.
Deaver--general chairman of the inaugural ceremonies--left his sick bed Sunday to attend the official White House ceremony in which Reagan took the oath for his second term as President.
He had been bedridden before the ceremony and shortly after its conclusion entered the hospital in order to rest, thus missing Monday’s re-enactment of the inauguration in the Capitol Rotunda.
White House spokesman Larry Speakes said Deaver was undergoing tests today to determine the cause of the “flu-like symptoms over the previous week.” He said Reagan and his wife, Nancy, will visit Deaver at the “appropriate” time.
