Text of Sen. Mathias’ Ceremony Remarks
Here is the text of Sen. Charles McC. Mathias Jr.’s remarks at the inaugural ceremony Monday. Mathias (R-Md.), is chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
“Mr. President, Mr. Vice President, fellow citizens--we celebrate today the 50th inauguration of a President and vice president of the United States and the beginning of the presidential term that will bring us to the threshold of the third century of American constitutional government.”
Mathias then introduced in turn each person or group who gave an invocation or performed at the ceremony.
