The City Council has directed the city attorney to prepare an ordinance banning helipads, heliports and airports in Monterey Park. The council action is an outgrowth of a controversy last year over a proposal by Union Bank to build a helipad atop a regional data processing center in McCaslin Industrial Park. Union Bank withdrew its request for a helipad after hundreds of residents complained about the potential noise.
