UC Irvine’s Aniston Loses to Pawsat
UC Irvine’s Steve Aniston, the only Anteater to advance to the championship round of the adidas Invitational tennis tournament at Palm Springs, lost to USC’s Tim Pawsat, 6-1, 6-2, Thursday.
Irvine fared better in the consolation second round with Bruce Man Son Hing defeating Paul Bernstein, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4; Julian Barham beating Ken Kurperstein of Flagstaff, Ariz., 6-4, 2-6, 6-4; and Darren Yates defeating Cal State Long Beach’s Steve Clusce, 6-2, 6-2.
Tustin’s Curt Stalder defeated Irvine’s Brad Ackerman, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, in other consolation action. The doubles team of Yates and Barham defeated Steve Garmaine and Alan Foster, 6-2, 6-2.
