Charge Against Attorney Dropped in ‘Sex Tapes’ Case
Attorney Robert K. Steinberg, accused of falsely reporting a theft of what he described as Vicki Morgan “sex tapes,” has won dismissal of his indictment on the charge by the Los Angeles County Grand Jury. But he still faces trial in Beverly Hills Municipal Court on a companion criminal complaint filed by the district attorney.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James N. Reese said Thursday that the law precludes grand juries from issuing indictments in misdemeanor cases, but he said the prosecutor’s complaint was proper.
Steinberg attracted attention two years ago when he announced that he had obtained videotapes showing sadomasochistic sex parties involving Morgan, the slain former mistress of the late Diners Club founder Alfred Bloomingdale, and some Reagan Administration appointees and friends.
He then reported the tapes stolen. The alleged tapes have not been found.
