Fraternity Plans to Make a Little ‘Noise’

Share

Well, fellas, it’s about time. The Fraternity of Friends, the very macho Music Center support group, is staging another of its special events, and this time wives are included. For both sexes the evening of Feb. 7 will include a cocktail reception, a preview performance of “Noises Off” at the Ahmanson Theatre and a pre-performance talk by Robert Fryer, artistic director of Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre. Fryer will be telling Fraternity members and their mates that “Noises Off,” starring Dorothy Loudon and the original Broadway company, is an “irreverent comedy based on the misadventures of a troupe of fifth-rate actors . . . during their flea-bag provincial tour.” We’ve heard of New York audiences rolling in the aisles. The Fraternity is bound to go that one better.

In the audience are bound to be Fraternity president W.M. (Marc) Marcussen and his wife, Barbara; vice president Richard Lippin and his wife, Ronnie; board members Harold Keith and Charles Schneider and their spouses. Plus Joe and Beverly Mitchell, Ernest and Ruth Friedman, Warner and Carol Henry, Kirk and Marty Calhoun, Martin and Donna Melone.

Para Los Ninos, the child-care center for the children of Skid Row, stages its first black-tie recognition dinner Thursday night at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Receiving their dues that night for the support and help they’ve given Para Los Ninos will be Mayor Tom Bradley, Times Publisher and Chief Executive Officer Tom Johnson, Atlantic Richfield’s Robert Wycoff and the Weingart Foundation.

The Social Scramble: It was giggles and happy sounds all through the ladies luncheon Stella Stambler and Marilyn Wolf gave upstairs at the Bistro for Geri Firks, who is marrying Richard Brawerman on Friday. It’s all for a good cause--the University of California, Santa Barbara--so Beverley Jackson grins, shrugs her shoulders and says she’s ready to get on with it. Being a really good sport she’ll let Fannie Flagg, Chancellor Robert A. Huttenback, Dorothy and Robert Mitchum, Milton Spring and a few surprise additions roast her to their hearts’ content Feb. 9 at Santa Barbara’s Restaurante del Paseo. Along with the roasting, the committee--Ginny Steele, Karen Adams, Roy Gaskin, Sylvia Brickley, Betty Groebli, Ardis Higgins, Bonnie Raisin and the rest--is also planning a gourmet dinner. That brave man Craig Case is tackling the job of master of ceremonies.

Amid balloons and multicolored flowers and black columns (the decor was by Bates Hinds and his Flower Pavilion) the Guild for Cystic Fibrosis hosted a “celebration” at the Century Plaza on Saturday night and presented Mr. and Mrs. Andy Gump and Mr. and Mrs. Barry Gump with 1984 Breath of Life Awards. The “celebration” included dinner and dancing and a celebrity auction.

Chef Joachim Splichal is preparing the lunch--a surprise--and Val Fleur is providing the wine for today’s meeting of the Angel Patrons of Wine at one of L.A.’s newest restaurants, Max au Triangle. Hosting for the Angels are Mrs. L. James Hutson and Mrs. Robert J. Kribs.

Socializing (at separate tables) one night at Morton’s--Christina Ferrare de Lorean with ABC’s Anthony Thomopoulos, Wendy and Leonard Goldberg; and Marianne and Kenny Rogers with Juli and Herbert Hutner.

In the crowd at Chasen’s on Friday night--Cary and Barbara Grant with Irving and Mary Lazar; Helen and Richard Wolford in from their home in Maui; Diana Ross wearing a shimmery silver coat.

Sunday afternoon, Dr. William H.D. Hornaday of the United Church of Religious Science officiated at the marriage of Sandra Marshall and television newscaster Jerry Dunphy.
