Despite an auto accident involving UC Irvine’s top singles players, the Anteaters rallied to defeat U.S. International University, 5-4, in men’s tennis Tuesday at Irvine.

No one was injured when the car carrying Irvine’s Darren Yates and Art Hernandez hit a car stalled on the freeway.

The players, who had been traveling to the match, missed their singles matches but arrived in time to play doubles. They accounted for two of Irvine’s three doubles victories. Irvine, which had to substitute players for Yates and Hernandez, had trailed after the singles competition.
