Pasadena will mark Black History Month this Saturday with a parade, youth talent exhibition, an exposition of minority businesses and community services and a 5K and 10K “Freedom Run.”

The daylong celebration will begin with the run at 8 a.m. at the Rose Bowl. Mack Robinson, silver medalist at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, will start the race, which will end at the Jackie Robinson Center.

The parade, with the theme “Black Heroes: Past and Present,” begins at 11 a.m. at Charles White Park in Altadena, proceeds south on Fair Oaks Avenue and concludes at Robinson Park in Pasadena. Eight marching bands, including the 300th U.S. Army Band, will participate. Assemblywoman Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) will serve as grand marshal. Other participants will include Ja’net Dubois, star of the television show “Good Times,” and former Dodger pitcher Al Downing.
