U.N. Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar ended a two-day peace mission to Vietnam, saying his trip made “significant progress” toward resolving questions about the more than 2,500 Americans missing in action in the Vietnam War. Perez de Cuellar told reporters in Hanoi that he found the Vietnamese surprisingly receptive to Washington’s concern over the issue. The U.N. leader, accompanied at the press conference by Vietnamese Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach, added that “modest progress” was made in the search for peace in Cambodia but that much remains to be done.
