A 25-year-old man wanted in Chicago on suspicion of murder was arrested by Orange County sheriff’s deputies Thursday when he appeared at Central Municipal Court for a hearing on a charge of assault and robbery in Santa Ana last November.

‘Very Surprised’

Lt. Dick Olson said Alfonso Moreno was arrested without incident by two sheriff’s investigators when he arrived to face the charges lodged against him by Santa Ana police last Nov. 16. “Needless to say, he was very surprised,” Olson said.

Moreno was living in Orange County under the alias of Juan Salgado, Olson said. He had posted $1,500 bail on the local charge two days after his arrest, and his fingerprints were sent to the FBI, Olson said. A routine check of the fingerprints revealed that Moreno was wanted in Chicago in connection with a stabbing death that occurred April 23, 1983.
