A policeman accused of killing a woman with two shotgun blasts as she was being evicted from a housing project was charged Thursday with second-degree manslaughter.

Officer Stephen Sullivan, 43, pleaded innocent at his arraignment before Justice Vincent Vitali in state Supreme Court and was released on his own recognizance. He was ordered to return to court March 4.

Sullivan, a 19-year veteran of the force, could serve up to 15 years in prison if convicted of killing Eleanor Bumpurs, a 67-year-old grandmother, Bronx Dist. Atty. Mario Merola said. Police say Sullivan shot Bumpurs, described as emotionally disturbed, last Oct. 29 when she came at him and four other officers with a knife. She was being evicted for failure to pay rent.
