Father Held in Death of Infant Son
An 18-year-old Imperial Beach man is being held without bail in County Jail on suspicion of killing his 2 1/2-month-old son.
According to a Sheriff’s Department spokesman, sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a baby not breathing at 5:30 a.m. Saturday. The baby, identified as James P. Spatz Jr., was taken by paramedics to Children’s Hospital, where he died, apparently of head injuries at 2 p.m.
The infant’s father, James P. Spatz, was later arrested. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
