Sister Mary Bridget Flaherty has been appointed chancellor of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco. It is the first time a woman has been appointed to this key executive position in a major diocese in the United States, according to an announcement by the archdiocese. Flaherty’s previous work includes teaching, administrative and financial posts with several Catholic schools and institutions. The new chancellor is a member of the Madames of the Sacred Heart religious congregation.
