FALL GUYS, CRASH VICTIM HONORED

Hollywood’s fall guys took their bows at the first Stuntman Awards, and honored a colleague killed in a helicopter crash while filming an air chase last month.

The program, taped Saturday night at the ABC television studios for national broadcast in March, was dedicated to Reid Rondell, 22, a third-generation stunt man who was burned to death in a crash Jan. 18 while working on the “Airwolf” TV series.

The categories and winners were:

Best Vehicular Stunt: Buddy Joe Hooker for the “Sweet Britches” segment of the TV series, “Airwolf”; Bob Orrison, the TV pilot for “Hunter,” and Dick Ziker, for the “Still Alive at Five” segment of the TV series “Legmen.”

Best Stunt With an Animal: Steve Chambers for the film “The Right Stuff”; Monty Cox for the film “Gambler II” and Buddy Joe Hooker for the “Cold Streak” segment of the TV series “The Rousters.”

Best Fight Sequence: Steve Davison and John Meier for the “Lipstick Killer” segment of the TV series “T.J. Hooker”; Jack Gill, Al Jones, Mike Vendrell, Kenny Endoso, Harold Jones, Jeff Imada, Jeff Jensen, Carl Ciarfalio and Dave Darling for the “Mouth of the Snake” segment of the TV series, “Knight Rider,” and Diane Peterson, George Ruge, Gil Combs, Mike Tillman and Tom Morga for the film, “Bachelor Party.”

Best High Work: Tony Cahana for the film “Uncommon Valor”; Julius Le Flore for the film “Exterminator II” and Terry Leonard and Vince Deadrick Jr. for the film “Romancing the Stone.”

Best Specialty Stunt: David Ellis for the TV film “V: The Final Battle”; Gary Hymes for the “Scared Stiff” segment of the TV television series “Hardcastle and McCormick” and Phil Adams, Jeff Ramsey, Peter Stader and Dick Warlock in the film “Firestarter.”

Best Action Sequence by a Coordinator: Craig Baxley for the “Bend in the River” sequence of the TV series “A-Team”; Gary Davis for the film “Against All Odds” and Glenn H. Randall Jr. for “Firestarter.”

Best Aerial Stunt: Jeff Habberstad, Kinnie Gibson for the “Prisoner” segment of the TV series, “The Fall Guy”; David Jones for the television pilot of “Airwolf” and Jamie Namson and Gary Davis for the “Weekend” segment of the TV series, “Scarecrow and Mrs. King.”

Best Overall Action Picture: Terry Leonard and Vince Deadrick Jr. for “Romancing the Stone.”

Most Spectacular Stunt Sequence: Jeannie Epper and Vince Deadrick Jr. for “Romancing the Stone”; Terry Leonard and Vince Deadrick Jr. for “Romancing the Stone” and Carey Loften and Gary Davis for “Against All Odds.”
