A Dana Point woman was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving early Wednesday after she allegedly struck a Marine who was walking across a San Juan Capistrano street, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Dawn Campbell, 19, was booked into Orange County Jail and was being held on $10,000 bail, said Sheriff’s Lt. Dick Olson.

The victim, Paul Goodman a 36-year-old gunnery sergeant stationed at Camp Pendleton, was in serious condition in the intensive care unit of Mission Community Hospital in Mission Viejo.

Olson said both of Goodman’s legs were broken, his skull fractured and his pelvis possibly broken when he was struck by the car while crossing Camino Capistrano about 1 a.m. The impact threw Goodman about 40 feet, Olson said.

Goodman, who was celebrating his birthday, told officers he saw the car approaching and shoved his 36-year-old wife, Katheryn, out of the way. She was not injured, Olson said.
