Long Arm of the Law Extends From 7-Eleven to Stop ‘n Go

Two Huntington Beach men arrested on suspicion of robbing a Brea convenience store at gunpoint early Thursday, police said.

California Highway Patrol officers who had heard a broadcast description of the bandits spotted two men approaching the Stop ‘n Go market, at Placentia and Chapman avenues, Fullerton, about an hour after the Brea robbery. They took the suspects into custody about 1:30 a.m.

Brea Police Sgt. Tom Flenniken said one of the men was carrying a gun as he approached the market in Fullerton.

Louie Mendoza, 24, of Upland, and Andrew Lopez, 22, of Pomona, were booked into Brea City Jail on suspicion of armed robbery and then taken to Fullerton City Jail, where they were booked on suspicion of attempted robbery, Brea police said. The men were transferred Thursday afternoon to Orange County Jail, where they were being held on $50,000 bail each.

Flenniken said a store clerk identified both suspects as the men who held up the 7-Eleven at 109 W. Lambert Road, Brea, and took $25 from the cash register shortly after midnight.
