Flu Strikes Schroeder, Recipient of Heart
Artificial heart recipient William Schroeder has contracted the flu and “feels lousy,” but doctors do not consider the illness to be serious, a hospital spokesman said Friday.
Schroeder had “flu-like symptoms,” but was listed in satisfactory condition at Humana Hospital Audubon, said Humana Inc. spokesman Robert Irvine.
“He just feels lousy,” Irvine said.
Schroeder, 52, has had to curtail his regimen of daily speech, occupational and physical therapy sessions because of his flu, Irvine said. A fever that began last week has continued to fluctuate, and physicians blamed the rise in temperature on Schroeder’s medication.
