The number of unemployed Canadians increased by 167,000 in January to 1,483,000 and the jobless rate, adjusted for seasonal variations, rose to 11.2% from a revised 10.9% in December, the government’s Statistics Canada said Friday.

The increase in the national rate resulted from both a slight decline in full-time employment among women and an increase in the number of men in the labor force, the agency said.

The number of full-time jobs fell by an estimated 48,000 in January to 9,409,000.
