Blast at Agoura High Called Act of Vandals

Share

The motive for a pipe bomb explosion that shattered a window in an empty classroom at Agoura High School late Friday or early Saturday appeared to be vandalism, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said Sunday.

A second pipe bomb was found Saturday unexploded in an open locker at the school, the spokesman said.

No one was injured in the blast, which caused an estimated $100 in damage. The bombs were discovered about 12:30 p.m. Saturday by a student after he arrived at school to serve a detention assignment, the sheriff’s spokesman said. The student was on his way to give the unexploded pipe bomb to school officials when he noticed the broken window and found the exploded pipe bomb outside, deputies said.

The sheriff’s bomb squad was called in to remove the devices. The sheriff’s arson detail is investigating the incident.
