Blast Cuts Fountain Valley Power

Share

About 2,000 Southern California Edison Co. customers in Fountain Valley lost power for nearly an hour Monday night, after an underground explosion severed some underground cables, an Edison spokesman said.

There were no injuries from the explosion, according to spokesman Fred Mickelson.

Mickelson said the explosion, at 8:55 p.m. near the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Margo Lane in Westminster, knocked out power to Fountain Valley homes on both sides of Brookhurst, south of Warner Avenue and west of Talbert Avenue. Power was restored by re-routing lines at 9:47 p.m., but crews were continuing to work on a permanent repair late Monday, he said.

The explosion was caused by the failure of a splice in an underground cable, according to Mickelson. He said it caused a small fire, but the extent of the damage was not known late Monday.
