Noah Falls in Lipton Tourney

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. —
Eleventh-seeded Tomas Smid of Czechoslovakia eliminated No. 9 Yannick Noah of France 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 today to move into the semifinals of the $1.8-million Lipton International Players Championships tennis tournament.
With the victory, Smid is the highest seed left in the men’s singles in this two-week, Grand Slam-size tournament. Noah was the last player in the men’s singles who had won a Grand Slam singles title, having captured the French Open in 1983.
