Reagan Won’t Mark War Anniversary in Germany After All
President Reagan has cut short his planned visit to West Germany in May and will not be there to mark the 40th anniversary of the end of World War II, the government said today.
Reagan will stay on after the May 2-4 economic summit of Western leaders in Bonn but will spend only May 5-6 in West Germany. On May 8--the 40th anniversary of the end of the war--the President will be in Strasbourg, France, to address the European Parliament, the government statement said. It was not immediately known what Reagan would do on May 7.
Reagan originally was to have stayed in West Germany May 5-8 on a state visit after the seven-nation annual summit--reportedly at the special request of Chancellor Helmut Kohl that he be in the country on the anniversary.
