Bush Names Fuller His Chief of Staff
Vice President George Bush announced Wednesday that he has chosen Craig L. Fuller, a top White House aide who has worked for Ronald Reagan since he was governor of California, to serve as his chief of staff for the next four years.
The appointment comes at a time when Bush is revamping his entire staff in preparation for a likely presidential bid in 1988. Fuller’s credentials as a longtime Reagan supporter from California are expected to be an asset to the vice president.
In 1973, when Reagan was governor of California, Fuller served as a member of the California Housing and Community Development Commission and was a consultant to a governor’s task force on local government reform. He later became vice president of the Los Angeles public relations firm of Deaver & Hannaford, which helped Reagan win the presidency in 1980.
Since 1981, Fuller has been assistant to the President for Cabinet affairs.
