Two Westside residents, both faculty members at the USC California Law Center, have won national awards.

Alan Schwartz of West Los Angeles, the center’s Maurice Jones Jr. Professor of Law, has received a $2,500 prize from the Law and Economics Institute at the University of Miami.

The prize is presented to the author of the best article published during the year in the field of products liability and economics.

His article, “Products Liability, Corporate Structure and Bankruptcy: Toxic Substances and the Remote Risk Relationship,” was presented at a conference in 1984 and will appear later this year in the Journal of Legal Studies.

Charles Whitebread of Santa Monica, who teaches courses covering criminal procedures, children in the legal system, and gifts, wills and trusts, received an award from the American Judges Assn. for outstanding contributions to the judiciary. Whitebread is the center’s George T. Pfleger Professor of Law.
