The Region : Cars Searched at Border

Motorists waited for up to two hours at the San Ysidro crossing between Mexico and the United States as officials continued to inspect vehicles in search of a missing U.S. drug agent. The wait, with more than half the vehicles entering the United States being searched, could grow longer during this holiday weekend, Customs Service officials said. Agents seeking information about missing drug agent Enrique Camarena Salazar searched under the hoods and in the trunks of every car driven by aliens and conducted spot searches of autos driven by U.S. residents. Camarena, an agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration, was last seen 10 days ago in Guadalajara when he was shoved into a car by four gunmen.
