Allied Corp. introduced a 'super-strong' new fiber.

Allied said the new lightweight fiber will become a leading material in the manufacture of a wide range of products, from sails and marine rope to artificial limbs and bulletproof vests. Allied officials said that sales of the polyethylene fiber, called Spectra-900, will eventually exceed $200 million a year. The company also claimed that the fiber is 30% to 50% stronger than its closest competitor.
