Fire at Diceon Plant to Cause Some Layoffs

Share

A fire Monday night that destroyed a Diceon Electronics Inc. plant in Chatsworth will mean temporary layoffs of workers at the manufacturing facility but will not affect production significantly, an official for Irvine-based Diceon said Tuesday.

The fire caused an estimated $2.5 million in damage to the 100-foot by 200-foot structure and manufacturing equipment inside. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.

Some of the 60 workers employed in manufacturing circuit boards might have to be laid off, said Peter Jonas, the firm’s executive vice president. The structure itself--part of a 60,000 square-foot, four-building complex completed for Diceon last year--will have to be rebuilt, he said.

Diceon’s three other Southern California plants will expand production to meet customer’s orders, Jonas said.

Diceon is a manufacturer of circuit boards used in data processing, telecommunications, and instrumentation systems.
