The resale of existing homes rose 6.2% last year.
The National Assn. of Realtors reported that resales of homes totaled 3.1 million in 1984, up from 1983’s 2.92 million sales. The figures include sales of existing apartment condominiums and cooperatives. In California, resales were up 11.3% as 382,100 homes changed hands. For 1984, 42 states and the District of Columbia posted increases in home sales. Alabama showed a 27% jump and Rhode Island recorded a 26.1% increase. Oklahoma and Louisiana both posted 19.8% declines in resales. The peak year was 1978, when 4.2 million homes were resold.
