Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter said today that she is not a candidate for the U.S. Senate but wouldn’t close the door on a future attempt to follow in her husband’s political footsteps.

In an appearance on NBC’s “Today” program, Carter admitted that she has been approached to run for the Senate from Georgia but has said no.

“No, not now.” she said. “I don’t have any plans to run for office now.”

When pressed, she added, “Well, yes (I’ve been approached), but I don’t have any plans now to run for office.”
