Drug-Smuggling Link Broken
A routine traffic check led to the discovery of a major marijuana smuggling operation between Las Vegas and Guadalajara, Mexico, Metro Police reported.
Lt. Mike Manning, commander of Metro’s narcotics section, said five people, including three Mexican nationals, were arrested. Police recovered 60 pounds of marijuana and several weapons.
Seized along with the drugs were detailed plans outlining the drug-smuggling operations, Manning said.
Manning said the incident began about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday when Metro officers stopped Charles Howard, 19, of Las Vegas, on a routine traffic check. Officers found three pounds of high grade marijuana in the car, and a search warrant for a Las Vegas home obtained as a result of the find led to further arrests and seizures.
