Villa Park : City Council to Consider 3 School-Closing Options

Schools Supt. Kenneth Brummel will meet with the City Council on Wednesday to consider proposals to close Villa Park Elementary School and Villa Park High School.

The council study session with Brummel and his staff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at 17855 Santiago Blvd. The council plans a second meeting next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. for additional discussion.

The Orange Unified School District staff has presented three optional school-closure recommendations to the district’s Citizens Steering Committee for consideration.

All three options propose closing Villa Park Elementary School later this year. In addition, Villa Park High School would be closed in 1988 and students would be transferred to Canyon, El Modena and Orange high schools.

Also proposed for closure in the first option are Panorama, Riverdale and Jordan elementary schools. A community meeting on the Riverdale School closing is set for 7:30 p.m. next Monday at Vista del Rio Junior High School, 5001 Gerda Drive, Anaheim. At 7:30 Wednesday night, a meeting on Jordan School will be held at the campus, 4319 E. Jordan Ave., Orange.

The second option the board will consider lists Yorba and Vista del Rio junior high schools along with Villa Park, Panorama and Riverdale elementary schools.

The third option lists Villa Park, Riverdale and West Orange elementary schools. Peralta Junior High School surfaces on all three options.
