Number on Active Duty Increases to 2.14 Million

WASHINGTON —
The Defense Department said Monday that small increases in strength reported by each branch of the armed services pushed the total number on active duty to more than 2.14 million as of Jan. 31. That compares to 2.13 million at the end of January, 1984.
