The League of California Cities assailed Gov. George Deukmejian’s assertion that proposed federal budget cuts would not have a “dramatic adverse impact” on California. Between $3 billion and $4 billion would be lost to California in various forms of aid, including substantial sums to cities and counties. The league’s president, Mayor Bill Carroll of Vacaville, said in a statement that if Deukmejian believes “cuts amounting to $1 billion will have no dramatic impact on California, he should talk to the 19 million people who live in the urban areas of this state.”
