Attorneys for San Diego Gas & Electric Co. asked the Public Utilities Commission on Friday to reject a recommendation that would require SDG&E; and Southern California Edison Co. to show why their shareholders shouldn’t pay the repair costs of the San Onofre nuclear power plant. The recommendation made by the PUC staff, if accepted, could jeopardize a $70-million suit brought by the two utilities against Westinghouse Electric Corp., manufacturer of the three nuclear steam generators at San Onofre.
