San Onofre
The Sierra Club and Southern California Alliance for Survival have filed suit to stop the future operation of Reactor Unit 1 at the San Onofre nuclear power plant until it is further modified. The suit, filed last week in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, seeks to overturn a November order by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that allows Unit 1 to operate before completion of earthquake modifications. More than half of the $240-million project has been completed, utility spokesmen said.
