WASHINGTON — The House voted Tuesday to authorize the minting and sale of special coins commemorating the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, with money from the sale to be used for renovation of the statue.
The bill, which now goes to the Senate, would authorize the minting of up to 500,000 gold coins of $5 denomination, 10 million silver dollars and 25 million half-dollars.
