City Councilman Mike Gotch has asked the city staff to investigate ways to prevent weekend traffic jams on Mission Boulevard. Several times in the last year, traffic has been “gridlocked” on Mission Boulevard, Gotch said in a memo this week to City Manager Ray Blair. “Last weekend,” Gotch said, “afternoon traffic came to a complete standstill in both directions.” The alleys were also clogged with motorists seeking a way out, he noted, adding, “All this in February.” Gotch suggested several solutions, including redesigning Mission Boulevard to improve traffic flow, diverting traffic to alternate routes through Pacific Beach, and installing electronic road signs to warn motorists of traffic and parking conditions at the beach.
