Arts Figure Gladys Montgomery Dies

Gladys K. Montgomery, long active in the cultural affairs of the Southland, has died at age 92, it was learned this week.

A spokesman for Pomona College, where the Gladys K. Montgomery Art Center stands, said Mrs. Montgomery died Feb. 27.

With her late husband, Victor, she aided in advancements at the Hollywood Bowl. One of her favorite affiliations was with the Metropolitan Opera’s national council, on which she served as western division chairman for much of the 1960s.

In 1948, she was elected to the Pomona College Board of Trustees and served for 20 years. At Pomona, she organized the Women’s Campus Club and, with her husband, donated much of the money for the art center named for her.

Her survivors include a son, Victor; two daughters, Anne Erwin and Jeanne Cahill; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
