Monterey Park
The Monterey Park City Council has authorized the city’s rubbish contractor, Athens Disposal Co., to raise trash collection fees from $4.75 a month per home to $5.80. The increase will be contained in the next bills mailed to customers. City Manager Lloyd de Llamas said closure of the Operating Industries landfill in Monterey Park last year has forced Athens to haul trash farther, to the Puente Hills landfill near Hacienda Heights. The council granted the rate increase to cover the increased hauling costs.
