21 Years for Shooting Officers

A suspected drug dealer who shot two police officers, paralyzing one, during a 1983 raid on his Hyde Park apartment was sentenced today to a maximum term of more than 21 years in state prison.
“If a higher or longer sentence could be imposed, the court would impose it in this case,” Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Berg said as he sentenced Edwin Donelson, 27, of Los Angeles. Narcotics detective Norman R. Eckles, who was paralyzed in the shooting, has since retired from force.
