A 19-year-old Mexican was killed and two others were wounded early Thursday in what police believe to be another attack by border bandits.

San Diego Police Lt. Paul Ybarrondo of the homicide division said police were called to an area called Washer Women Flats, half a mile east of the San Ysidro border crossing and just north of the border. There they found the body of Arturo Velaquez of Tijuana, who had been shot once in the shoulder with a large-caliber weapon, Ybarrondo said. Police later discovered that 2 1/2 hours earlier, a Red Cross ambulance from Tijuana had picked up another gunshot victim about 200 feet north of Velaquez and took him to a Tijuana hospital. He had been shot several times.

Another victim, who had been shot once in the elbow, went on his own to a Tijuana hospital. The two wounded men were not identified. Velaquez is believed to be the second alien killed this year as a result of an attack by border bandits. Bandits have robbed aliens in the border area at least 20 times this year.
