Angolan Pilot Dies in Flight Training Crash
An Angolan pilot died when his air force MIG-21 jetfighter crashed in central Bie province during a training flight, the semi-official Angolan ANGOP news agency reported.
Diplomatic observers said the dispatch monitored in Lisbon last week was “unusual” because Angolan authorities normally only confirm air accidents after the pro-Western UNITA guerrillas claim to have shot down a plane.
ANGOP said sub-lieutenant Rui Morais da Conceicao died when his MIG-21 jetfighter crashed during a “dangerous maneuver” in a training flight, moments after takeoff from the provincial capital of Bie, Kuito.
