Kenya Recovers Elephant Tusks

Game Department and army patrols have recovered 924 elephant tusks valued at more than $300,000 in a 60-day security sweep against poachers in northeastern Kenya, the official Kenya News Agency said Saturday.

The news agency said the tusks were found buried at several locations in the Bothei Forest near Garissa, about 200 miles northeast of Nairobi.

“This kind of massacre carried out by poachers is robbing the country of its natural wealth,” said Amos Bore, the district officer for Northeastern province. “The government will do all it can to protect this country’s wildlife.”
