CORONA NORCO : Juvenile Surrenders, Held in Shooting Death

Share

A Corona youth was being held on suspicion of murder Monday in the shooting death of a 21-year-old Corona man last week.

The 17-year-old suspect, whose name was not released because he is a minor, surrendered to police Sunday. He is believed to have shot Kevin McCright in the front doorway of McCright’s Belle Street home late Thursday night, said Lt. Fred Biggs, commander of detectives for the Corona Police Department.

McCright, who suffered gunshot wounds in his neck and abdomen, died about six hours later at Riverside General Hospital. Investigators were able to identify the juvenile suspect from information McCright supplied from his hospital bed, Biggs said.

The suspect, whom Biggs said has a reputation “for being where he was supposed to be, when he was supposed to be there,” did not return to his parents’ home Thursday night and did not show up for work Friday morning.

His parents told police their son had never before stayed out all night, Biggs said.

Investigators were unable to locate the suspect until he arrived at Corona police headquarters Sunday afternoon to surrender. He was being held without bail in Juvenile Hall in Riverside.

“The motive appeared to be robbery,” Biggs said, but police would not comment further while their investigation continues.
