Minibuses will be used on the route serving the Barton Hill, Park Western Plaza and Ports o’ Call Village areas, the Southern California Rapid Transit District has announced.
An RTD spokesman said two of the smaller vehicles, which carry 27 people and are equipped with wheelchair lifts, will be used on Line 147 in place of the district’s standard, 47-passenger buses. The two minibuses are among 62 the district operates in Pomona, Pasadena and downtown Los Angeles.
The minibuses were chosen to replace the larger buses because they are easier to maneuver around the community’s terrain, and the larger buses seldom operated at capacity, the spokesman explained.
