A dispatcher for the Orange Police Department was shot and killed Wednesday in a remote area of Riverside County as she and her husband, a Buena Park police officer, were target shooting, authorities said.

The victim, identified as Lisa Koressel, may have been accidentally shot; it was not immediately clear who was holding the gun when it fired, authorities said.

Late in the afternoon, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigators were interviewing her husband, William R. Koressel, a 23-year-old Buena Park patrol officer for the last two years.

“A husband and wife went out target shooting; the wife ended up dead,” said Sgt. Randall Yankee of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Yankee said the shooting occured at the edge of Lake Matthews, off Cajalco Road in Glen Valley, an unincorporated area south of Riverside. The shooting was reported by an employee of the state Department of Fish and Game. Lisa Koressel, an Orange police dispatcher for less than a year who was said to be in her early 20s, died before members of the Riverside County coroner’s office arrived at the scene at 1 p.m.
