Three Pepsi Cola television commercials walked off with the sweepstakes honors this week at the 25th annual International Broadcasting Awards, sponsored by the Hollywood Radio and Television Society.

In observance of the silver anniversary of the awards, judges also looked over sweepstakes winners dating back to 1960 and selected the best commercials of the last 25 years.

Named as the TV anniversary winner was a series of three commercials for Hallmark Cards, titled “Ballerina, Christmas Wish, Music Professor,” the 1983 champion from Young & Rubicam, New York.

For radio, the anniversary winner won the sweepstakes in 1967--three commercials for Excedrin featuring Louise Lasser, Charles Nelson Reilly and Dick Cavett, also from Young & Rubicam.

Susan Saint James and Jane Curtin, stars of the CBS comedy “Kate & Allie,” were honored by the society as women of the year in broadcasting.

The awards were presented at a black-tie dinner at the Century Plaza. More than 5,000 entries from 54 nations competed in the awards, with 18 countries qualifying for the final judging.

Australia, Brazil, England and Japan won four of the 12 television trophies in the 1984 event.
