The Region : 2 Officers Face Discipline in Shooting
Monterey Park Police Chief Jon Elder has recommended the firing of two officers who were involved in an off-duty shooting incident on the San Bernardino Freeway in West Covina earlier this month. Officers Rafael Mercado and Kenneth Best have been relieved of duty pending a criminal and administrative investigation. Elder said the officers would continue to be paid pending the results. His recommendation will result in a hearing conducted by the city manager. The chief said no one was injured in the shooting.
